How to cure anemia

Anemia, a medical condition known as anemia, has become a common problem these days. When hemoglobin levels in the blood drop, oxygen cannot reach the body's organs in adequate amounts, leading to fatigue, weakness, and paleness.

Medication alone is not enough to overcome anemia; a proper diet and lifestyle balance are crucial. Here's a detailed breakdown of how you can increase your hemoglobin through natural and effective methods.

1. Iron-Rich Diet

Iron is essential for hemoglobin production. It can be divided into two categories:

Vegetarian Sources (Non-Heme Iron):

* Spinach and Green Leafy Vegetables: Spinach, fenugreek, and bathua are excellent sources of iron. They also contain folic acid, which helps in the formation of new blood cells.

* Beetroot: It wouldn't be wrong to call beetroot a "blood-producing machine."  It is rich in iron, potassium, and fiber.

* Jaggery and chickpeas: Since ancient times, consuming jaggery and roasted chickpeas has been considered a panacea for increasing blood.

Non-Vegetarian Sources (Heme Iron):

* Red Meat and Liver: If you are a non-vegetarian, liver is the richest source of iron.

* Eggs: Egg yolks contain a good amount of iron.

2. The Role of Vitamin C

Simply consuming iron is not enough; its absorption by the body is also essential. Vitamin C is essential for iron absorption.

* Citrus Fruits: Eat oranges, lemons, sweet limes, and grapes.

* Amla: Amla is considered excellent for increasing blood in Ayurveda. You can consume amla juice or preserve.

* Use with food: Squeeze lemon on your salad or eat vitamin C-rich fruits after meals.

 3. Fruits and Dried Fruits

Certain fruits help increase blood iron levels quickly:

* Pomegranate: Contains iron, calcium, and magnesium, which activate red blood cells (RBCs).

* Apple: The saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" also applies to anemia.

* Figs and Dates: Eating figs and dates soaked in water overnight on an empty stomach in the morning increases hemoglobin significantly.

* Raisins: Eating soaked black raisins on an iron-containing diet helps overcome iron deficiency.

4. Ayurvedic and Home Remedies

Since ancient times, certain home remedies have been used in India to increase blood:

* Cooking in an iron pan: It is a scientific fact that cooking in iron utensils increases the iron content in food.

* Giloy juice: It not only increases platelets but also purifies the blood.

 * Sesame seeds: Soak and grind black sesame seeds and consume them with honey.

5. Avoid these foods

We often consume foods that interfere with iron absorption:

* Tea and coffee: These contain tannins and caffeine, which inhibit iron absorption. Avoid tea immediately before or after meals.

* Calcium supplements: Never take iron and calcium together, as they neutralize each other's effects.

6. Lifestyle changes

* Exercise: Regular exercise increases the body's oxygen needs, which naturally stimulates the body to produce more hemoglobin.

* Adequate sleep: New cells are formed in the body only during deep sleep.

When to consult a doctor?

If you experience symptoms such as extreme fatigue, shortness of breath, dizziness, or whitening of the nails, get a CBC (Complete Blood Count) test done immediately.  If your hemoglobin level is below 8 g/dL, it's essential to take iron supplements along with home remedies.

Special note: Pregnant women and children are more susceptible to anemia, so they should not start any supplements without consulting a doctor.
